Instructions:

“This exercise aims to improve the horse’s ability to collect and improve its gait quality. Whether you ride it at a walk, trot or gallop, this exercise will assist your horse in developing its gait, increasing power, and shifting more weight onto its hind legs.

At the end of a short side, half halt before the corner, collect your horse and engage the hind legs. Ride through the corner and continue for about 15-20 meters of shoulder-in, then ride a circle to solidify your bend. As you leave the circle and ride onto the long side, maintain the bend into a shoulder-in again.

The purpose of the circle is to get the horse to carry more weight on the hindlegs. You can use the circle to increase the speed and engagement in the horse’s legs. The greater the thrust and the weight your horse can carry on his hindquarters, the more uphill your horse will carry himself.

The bigger the circle, the easier the exercise. You can vary the exercise by adding more circles along the way.”
